Car Insurance For Young Drivers Information

Passing your driving test is an exciting time for any young person and getting your own car is a great way to increase your freedoms and to allow you to start living a life of your own. Unfortunately its possible that the experience can be tarnished a little if you find out that you are going to have to spend a fortune on insurance for your new vehicle. There is no getting away from the fact that young person car insurance can get pretty steep even if you are driving a small, economical car.

Lets take a look at the things you can do to ensure that you get the best deal possible and something that you can afford so you can get yourself on the road sooner rather than later.

Choose A Sensible Car

This is a pretty boring option as we all want to drive the best car we can find right from the get go, but its better to save more exciting cars until later in your driving career when you have more experience on the roads and when the insurance companies respect you more.

One of the reasons that young drive car insurance is so expensive is because you haven't had time to build up a no claims bonus which reduces the size of your premiums the more years you can go without making a claim. Get yourself a small car that is cheap to insure and drive carefully for a couple of years and you will be rewarded with much cheaper premiums when you get round to buying a faster car.

Shop Around For Your Young Person Car Insurance

Taking your time to find the best deal available will ensure that you don't pay over the odds for your young person car insurance. There are so many companies online where you can get a quote in a matter of minutes that it pays to take the effort to try as many as possible. The car insurance comparison sites are worth a shot but remember that they take a commission so it can actually work cheaper to go direct to the insurance company themselves.

Get On Your Parents Car Insurance Policy

If you live at home and your parents drive then it can make sense to get on their car insurance policy for a year until you buildup some driving experience. Even if your parents have bought you a car it might be better to put the car in there name and see if you can just be added to their insurance as a named driver. The disadvantage of this option is that you won't be able to build up your own no claim bonus to get yourself a discount on your premium next year.

Get Third Party Car Insurance

Young person car insurance is so expensive that it limits the amount that many of us can spend on the vehicle itself. If you have had to economize and have bought a car that isn't worth too much money then you might want to check out third party insurance. Third party insurance only covers you for damage to other peoples property caused by you and for the theft of your car. If you crash and cause damage to your vehicle you will have to pay for the repairs yourself.

Increase The Excess You Are Willing To Pay

When you take out young person car insurance your policy will have an excess attached to it. This means that, say you have a £100 excess, whenever you make a claim you will have to pay the first £100 of costs. If you are willing to increase the excess on your policy you will reduce the costs of your premium. Don't go crazy with this though as the increase in excess doesn't give that big of a decrease in your premium and you don't want to end up with a huge bill if you have an accident.

Enjoy Your Driving

As you can see there are a few things you can actively do to decrease the cost of car insurance for young drivers. Unfortunately you are at the mercy of the insurers at the end of the day and insurance is always going to be more expensive for you due to the fact that young drivers are more likely to make a claim.

Do what you can to reduce your costs and you will be rewarded with cheaper premiums as the years go by and you pick up more driving experience. The most importnat thing is to enjoy your driving and the freedom it affords you no matter how much you have to pay for your insurance.
